While enjoying a visit to one of Kizugawa City’s many temples, it is important to always keep in mind the cultural significance and fragility of every historical location.

Please abide by the following rules when visiting temples anywhere in Japan:

  • Please refrain from having loud conversations while on temple grounds
  • Please remove any hats or sunglasses when entering the main hall
  • Please be mindful of the flora and fauna in the area and keep out of closed off spaces
  • Please take off any footwear before entering the main hall (excluding socks).
  • Most temples do not allow photography in the main hall; please ask if photography is allowed before taking any pictures

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when traveling in Japan:

  • Refrain from smoking in public areas that are not clearly marked as smoking areas
  • Be aware of pedestrians and bicyclists on the sidewalk; make room for other pedestrians
  • Keep voice levels down when riding public transportation
  • Do not litter and make a concerted effort to throw away trash in the appropriate bins
  • Refrain from taking pictures or entering private property without permission

Following the rules stated above will ensure your time in Kizugawa or anywhere in Japan is enjoyable.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
